In memoriam Marianne Beatrice Aversa-Muscheid (1939-2023)

M. Aversa farewell

Marianne Aversa (at centre on bench) surrounded by Department of English staff members on the occasion of her farewell lunch at 'Mission 21', Basel, in February 2002

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Marianne Beatrice Aversa-Muscheid at the age of 83.

Marianne worked at the Department of English of the University of Basel from 1969 to 2002. She was an excellent secretary who was diligent, kind, and extremely helpful with staff. She could be stern with students when necessary and was very well-respected by all. She gracefully supported the professors of the department in their research and teaching as she worked away in office 22. She did her work with the kind of grace she brought to the job as a ballet dancer. She was also known for random acts of kindness such as serving coffee to nervous students during their exam breaks. Her commitment and work ethic were exemplary, earning her the respect and admiration of her colleagues. We are grateful for her many splendid contributions and miss her.
